Is Bamboo Better? Here’s What We Think

There’s a new superstar emerging in the realm of homeware, and if you haven’t heard of this material, you’re probably living under a rock. Bamboo is taking the bed and bath world by storm, and for very good reason. And in case you really have been living under a rock, we’re jumping on the bandwagon and launching a new exciting collection of bamboo bedsheets and towels this October!

1. Environmentally-friendly

But this premium material tends to be slightly pricier than more mainstream materials, so the question on everyone’s mind is whether it’s worth the price tag? Read on as we break it down.

Bamboo sheets and towels are made from the pulp of the bamboo plant. One of the biggest upsides differentiating bamboo from other materials is how truly sustainable it is. Touted as one of the most eco-friendly materials in recent years, bamboo grows quickly (up to four feet in a day!), doesn’t require much water to thrive, produces 35% more oxygen and absorbs five times more carbon dioxide than most other plants! They regenerate quickly, and are good for Mother Earth all-around.

2. Durable

The bamboo plant is blessed with naturally long fibers, making its resulting sheets and towels highly durable and less likely to pill or tear, as you see in materials woven with shorter fibers. Bamboo is also less prone to showing signs of discoloration, so you can expect a longevity of 6 years (or even longer, with the right TLC).

3. Soft

Incomparably, matchlessly, immeasurably SOFT. One touch of the iconic silky soft material and you’ll know it’s bamboo. Plus, they get even softer with use, making them perfect for those with skin sensitivities or young children.

4. Breathable

We’re not going to get into the nitty-gritty of molecular science, but trust us when we say that because it’s a natural fiber and because of its structure, bamboo is breathable as heck. The superior air flow makes stuffy sheets a thing of the past, and cool, temperature-regulated nights a dream come true.

5. Moisture-wicking

Bamboo is renowned for its superb moisture-wicking properties – it absorbs and wicks away moisture up to four times more quickly than cotton. This is a lifesaver in hot, humid Singapore, where sweaty nights and damp sheets are common. Moist environments are a prime breeding ground for bacteria, germs, mould, dust mites and even fungi, and can trigger skin infections.

6. Hypoallergenic

Bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic because of its antimicrobial properties, so allergy sufferers rejoice – you can now look forward to clean, comfy and dry sheets, sans the sniffles and sneezes.

All in all, bamboo is a remarkable material with a ton of benefits that, in our opinion, make those few extra bucks more than worth it. Whether it’s bamboo sheets, clothes, towels, or even underwear, it’s a material that’ll be a fantastic addition to your home and subtly but massively upgrade your quality of life.
